A Province-By-Province Guide to Vaccine Passports in Canada

Table of Contents

If you’re traveling to Canada, you must get a vaccine. Luckily, if you’re going to be traveling to one of the provinces of Canada, it’s easy to get a vaccination at your destination. Read on to learn about the vaccines that are required in each Canadian province, as well as some tips for getting them.

Alberta

Provinces in Canada introduced vaccine passports to boost immunization rates and pull their health systems back from the brink. They require a person to show proof of vaccination before entering an entertainment or public venues, such as a sports bar, concert hall, or restaurant. However, the program is being phased out across the country.

Saskatchewan and Manitoba are the latest to announce their plans to eliminate their mask mandates. Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec are among the other provinces to announce their plans to lift their vaccine requirements. The provinces are announcing a three-stage plan.

Alberta will remove the mask requirement for children under 12 by the end of this month. Students in Alberta public schools will also no longer need masks starting next week. The provincial government will also end capacity limits for venues with 500 or fewer seats.

In March, Saskatchewan and Ontario will remove the proof of vaccination required for adults and children. Quebec and Labrand have yet to announce the dates for ending their mandates.

British Columbia

Whether you’re new to Canada or planning a visit, you should know the vaccine passports regulations. The rules vary from province to province. The federal government has announced a plan to create a national proof of vaccination in August 2021.

Many provinces have implemented or are in the process of implementing a vaccination passport system. These include Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Prince Edward Island.

Some provinces are still deciding on the scope and duration of their vaccination passport systems. However, they will need to be transparent and clear. The government must establish its legal authority and ensure that the risks are balanced with the benefits.

Currently, the main requirement to enter Canada is having a complete vaccination. Children under 12 years of age are generally exempt.

The first province to officially announce a vaccine passport system was Quebec. Since then, other provinces have followed suit. The provinces have also introduced other measures to help keep Canadians safe.

Northwest Territories

Whether you’re new to Canada or are returning to the country after a long hiatus, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with vaccination passport requirements in your province. Luckily, most provinces have begun rolling out vaccination passport programs. In this article, we’ll look at a handful of initiatives that are currently underway and how they could change.

The first place to start is with the province of Alberta. While the province’s Premier Jason Kenney has vehemently denied implementing a vaccine passport program, the province has taken some steps to make it easier to acquire one.

Initially, the government announced that it was planning to introduce a proof of vaccination system. Although the plan was viewed as divisive, it was deemed necessary to protect Canadians from spreading a dangerous virus.

The provincial health officer has ruled that medical exemptions will no longer be accepted. Anyone visiting a religious or medical facility must present proof of vaccination. This document will be based on a downloadable QR code and other information such as a name and date of birth.

Yukon

The Canadian government plans to roll out a new digital vaccine passport for international travel. All Canadians will use the new system in the form of a QR code.

While the federal government is moving forward with the new system, many provinces are also working on their version of the vaccine passport. The system is designed to help encourage unvaccinated individuals to get immunized.

Quebec was the first province to announce a plan to implement the new vaccine passport system. The province will replace handwritten cards given out after a person gets vaccinated with a QR code.

While many provinces have introduced vaccination passport systems, the Northwest Territories and Prince Edward Island have not. However, the Yukon government plans to start issuing vaccine credentials to all residents.

Visiting New Brunswick requires travelers to register with the health board to show proof of vaccination. The province also accepts immunization records from other provinces.
